Simple Motivation
I've always thought Batgirl was a really interesting character. Like the rest of her vigilante family, Barbara is a naturally gifted athlete with genius level intellect. She's a talented gymnast, expert martial artist, hacker and even has a photographic memory. What really sets her apart though, is her motivation. Unlike Bruce and Dick, Barbara didn't need to face a life-altering tragedy to devote herself to the pursuit of justice. She fights crime because she was born to.
Some people will tell you that you haven't been through enough to know what it's like to truly depend on God. We compare hardships and make assumptions about what it takes to understand and act on His will. The truth is, the Bible is full of examples where God used an untested, inexperienced young person to change the course of history. David was brave enough to fight off lions and yet no one expected him to take down Goliath. Yes, going through trials and tribulations gives us perspective, but struggles aren't the only source of our strength. Sometimes all we need is the perfect role model. Being the daughter of legendary police commissioner Jim Gordon, Batgirl has a lot to live up to. Barbara learned the value of service-before-self watching her father use his talents and passions to help others. Not all of us are going to have a parent like that growing up, but we all have an even better role model--the best one actually. Christ not only made the ultimate sacrifice for us, he lived a blameless life--all the while constantly serving others. Many of Jesus' disciples were likely young and inexperienced. They went from fishermen to world-changers, all because of who they followed.
No matter what struggles you may or may not be going through, or what you have or haven't experienced yet, God has a plan for your life. Some of us will face difficult trials early on, and some might not. The bottom line is that if we keep our eyes on Christ, pursue His will, and stay motivated, we all are capable of greatness, able to face whatever comes our way.
